Painting over my old illustration
I painted over a drawing that I did a very long time ago! Again, I had a
lot of fun with watercolor textures, and it was a chance to see how
much I improved my painting skills! I posted a process that shows how I
transformed my old illustration.

Another drawing
I
had a lot of fun with watercolor textures in the previous drawing that I
did another drawing using a similar technique. I used the sketch that I
did about a week ago and painted over digitally using Photoshop. I feel
like I am getting better in drawing portraits in general, but there are
still a lot of things to learn from people around me :)

Drawings of the day
Inspired by Yoshitaka Amano, I did very quick sketches in the afternoon
and colored them using watercolor. I tried to become a bit more
experimental in my sketches by applying thicker layers of primary
colors. I also liked the idea of one of my sketches that I took the
photo of it and worked digitally using Photoshop. I call the piece
'Overflowing of stars,' and it is still a work in progress :)

I have been using this palette since I was middle school, and watercolor has become my favorite medium since then :)
The Art of Angel's Egg
I was looking at several art books in an old bookstore when my eyes caught The art of Tenshi no tamago (angel's egg)
by one of my favorite illustrator, Yoshitaka Amano! I was very
fortunate to find this book because I loved his artwork especially since
I came across his amazing concept work for Final fantasy back
when I was in high school. In this world of emerging digital
illustration, his use of traditional materials amazes me, and his style
is so different from other artists that I just keep finding myself
staring at this book for a long time.

Old illustration...
Found an old illustration that I did as I was organizing my file!
I remember that I was inspired by someone who also drew a garden and did a similar style. I was trying to mimic the style of using a hard brush with little opacity to draw bushes and nature in general.
First vector drawing!
This was my first time using pen tool in Illustrator, and I love the
resolution-independence of this software. I tried to draw Eiffel tower
as a start, and I am pleased with the result especially considering that
it was my first time using Illustrator since my freshman year.
Disney Inspire Day 2013
Had an amazing opportunity to participate in Inspire Day 2013 in Disney
Animation Studio! As soon as I got an e-mail which stated that I was
accepted to this event, I immediately booked my flight to Burbank. I
stayed in a small but cozy Travelodge and my experience of Inspire Day
is just full of wonderful memories! We were introduced to a sneak peak of
upcoming animation, "Frozen" which will be released during my birthday, November
27! I am already very excited because from what I've seen, the process
that goes to make that animation is truly AMAZING.
After the presentation that talked about the pipeline, I tagged along with a group of students who were interested in look development, and I had a honor to talk to look development artists who were currently working at Disney! Hearing a lot of stories, feedback, and descriptions of what look development does from the actual artists was one of my favorite parts of this whole trip! I can't express my happiness when I stepped my foot inside the studio, and hopefully, I would visit again!
Forest
Have been practicing a random sketch that I did few weeks ago....
For some reason, I have been drawing a lot of trees lately!
The Art of making miniatures
While surfing through pictures of my old artwork, I came across photos
of my miniature-making process! I used to make dollhouses and be
fascinated by the small details! When I was in Japan, I collected a lot
of them, and when I finally came to Korea, I decided to attend workshop
to learn how to make them by myself. Here are some pictures of the
process and the final product :)
The endless bridge
Besides working on visual effects or doing digital illustration, one of the things I really enjoy is coming up with a story and doing character development based on it. I came up with a simple story where a boy and a girl are the only ones left in the world. They are walking on the endless bridge to search for other survivors or search for the purpose of living. While the girl (named Haru) is very optimistic, enjoying the freedom and making fun of how humans destroyed the world, the boy (named Niel) doesn't find any meaning in the world. He is quiet, mysterious, and doesn't seem to care about anything.
This was basic storyline I came up with, and although I might develop the story further in the future, I drew Haru and Niel with my favorite medium, color pencils! I also did a digital paint-over using Photoshop. I feel like the color pencils and digital paint-over have their own uniqueness, so I decided to upload both!
A very random doodle....
Did a very random doodle today! It is based on the idea of how goat
is associated with evil. I drew one with goat horns and ears while the
other one has the ear of the lamb in association with good. Both figures
are based on the same model, thus representing how we possess both good
and evil.
New drawing
I am currently doing concept art for my friend who is doing her senior animation! I am very excited to paint her concept art, and it would be a wonderful practice for me to continue drawing with Photoshop! She has provided me with reference images from The Hobbit where Gandalf and dwarves are running away on a bridge from goblins. I took some aspects of the bridge to create concept art as shown below.
Costume drawings
Past works done at Action Analysis class with Professor Wright!! It was awesome to be able to draw people with costumes!
Equestrian tour and sketch
Today, I had the opportunity to go to SCAD's Equestrian center. I have
never seen so many horses in one place and I started doing quick
sketches with a brush pen. At first, it was very hard to capture the
moving horses, but as I came to focus on simplifying the shapes and
paying close attention to their muscles and masses, it became much
easier to draw!
